There are lots of arguments for the NHS. The Knife is genuinely proud to have spent 27 years – and counting – doing my bit. However, there can be no doubt that it has drifted from its original purpose, as has much of the welfare state, to the point where it is getting unaffordable.
Needless to say, much of this expense is because of the incredible variety and size of its bureaucracy and administration, much of which could be ditched. Seriously. Here’s one example, even if it probably won’t work for every hospital.
