Bogus titles all: “community organisers”, “muslim community leaders”, and today’s favourite, “doctors’leaders”.
As in “doctors’ leaders state that women should be advised that abortion is generally safer than continuing a pregnancy to term.”
Eh? Yes, it’s sadly true. Not the bit about abortion being safer, I mean the bit about these leaders, who in this case are some of the bigshots from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
Leaving aside the obvious fact that pregnancy overall has a distinguished and rather long pedigree, there is the massive mental and emotional damage wrought by abortion on huge numbers of women, however valid their reasons for finishing the pregnancy seemed to be at the time.
To quote the Telegraph:
The guidance also says that women who are deciding whether to have an abortion must be told that most do not suffer any psychological harm. Until now, their advice has been that while rates of psychiatric illness and self-harm in women are higher among those who had an abortion, there was no evidence that termination itself was likely to trigger psychological problems.
While few dispute that terminations carry fewer physical risks to a woman than those of pregnancy, the impact of abortions on psychological health is highly contentious.
Contentious is putting it mildly
Hippocrates would have struggled with this lot. The Knife actually took the oath at graduation:
I will give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest any such counsel; and in like manner I will not give a woman a pessary to produce abortion.
or in a widely quoted modern version:
I will neither prescribe nor administer a lethal dose of medicine to any patient even if asked nor counsel any such thing nor perform the utmost respect for every human life from fertilization to natural death and reject abortion that deliberately takes a unique human life.
The Knife has every sympathy with women who face an “unwanted” pregnancy, and makes no criticism of those who undergo abortion. Positive help should go beyond sympathy too, something neglected by government, but not by several excellent charities.
However, I have a very big problem with “doctors’ leaders” who promote it with misleading, unethical and unscientific drivel of this kind.
It’s currently unclear whether the RCOG’s ultimate goal is to have every pregnancy end in a nice safe abortion. Happily though, we do know that they are commited to fighting climate change. Now, why is that not surprising?
