Mandelson’s extraordinarily self parodying advert sees him rapidly turning into Noel Coward, a sort of waspish, gay senior commentator, sadly lacking in humour or genuine self-deprecation. The pre-publication puff confirms Mandy’s fantastically stupid conceit:
“I felt at the end of my term in office I had better and greater qualities to be a prime minister than I had at the beginning.”
The Knife’s feeling is that whatever the fun to be had in burying Brown et al deeper in their own well-earned misery, Mandelson’s existence and self-seeking high profile will not be a Labour vote-winner. Ever.
