The disgusting attempt at stitching up the country by the triumvirate of Brown (rejected), Mandelson (unelected) and Campbell (unelected) seems to have been launched without Cabinet approval, yet is utterly reliant on the Labour MP’s playing ball.
As yesterday showed, this is not a wise assumption. Already David Blunkett, John Reid (eloquently), Diane Abbott (cagily), Tom Harris and even Harriet Harman have expressed a mix of opposition and concern.
As Tom Harris rightly points out, how could he reasonably coalesce with Alex Salmond?
There is one figure who could usefully pour very cold water on it, if in his heart he felt it was wrong. A man who is seeking atonement and a purpose in his new life…….. Anthony Blair, where are you?
